Finding it tough....
Hiya,
Myself and my brother have been playing the game for a week or two now, and we have come unstuck and got ourselves stuck. We need any advice anyone could give. I am a W/E17 and he is a N/E18 thinking about it, it would have made more sence for one of us to have had a monk as our secondary profession, but such is life and as we both have young children and jobs, starting again would be a huge huge pain. I have captured a screen of my weapon, I dont have one of his as he is offline at the moment. Now we have got as far as Bloodstone Fen, and have got seriously stuck as we dont know where else to go. We need to do the mission at "The Wilds" but we where finding that insanley hard, and then found and completed the Bloodstone Fen one, hoping it would open up a new area, so we could gather some more quests and level up a little to take on the Wilds, but it didnt. if anyone has any hints or tips on what we could do to make out players stronger, or less prone to dieing =D that would be great, any other hints or tips as to where to go next would be great. Thanks in advance for any help or tips. |

I can help you tonight with my level 20 w/e or my level 19 Mes/Necro build.. and yeah changing your secondary to Monk will help alot. but you have to ascend first and do at least 7 or 8 missions until you reach that lady that give you the quest to change your secondary.
Pm tonight and i'll help you with that mission With a W/Monk build. you can attack and heal yourself at the same time. But you would have to watch your energy since warriors usually don't have that much in stock. May i suggest get a good group of people (instead of grabbing henchies) to do those mission? |

after you complete bloodstone fen, you should be at an outpost where you can pick up a few quests. one of these leads you to another outpost where you can, in turn, get another quest that leads you to the next mission.
basically, just do the primary quests and you won't get stuck until you reach the desert, where you will have to find the missions yourself. |

If i remember correctly, The Wilds is kind of a long way from any other town or outpost. Just keep plugging along with the missions as they provide a natural progression through the game. If your quest log is looking a bit slim, just map around to different towns and check all the NPC's for quests you might have missed. I just went back to Piken Square with my level 20 N/Me (quick storage/merchant access), and picked up a quest I missed early in the game. I even got a skill that I didn't want to buy because I knew somewhere along the line I was supposed to get it as a quest reward. Turns out I should have gotten that skill a long time ago!

i simply bypassed that mission (will come back later) and simply used the explorable areas to get to the next mission
also if you are not happy with your characters you could start something you are sure you would be happier with and as soon as you go through the academy you can strip the old characters of any useful items and then use them for extra storage space. a week or so is not (in my poinion) much waste as the second character would take less time. Changing to a W/Mo for me really would be a downer at this point, as I said I have a baby daughter and that takes up a hell of a lot of my time, its taken me way way too much time online to get to where I am now, due to an unhealthy new addiction to this game.
I have toyed with the idea of doing some of the missions with real people rather than henchmen, and have indeed done a few when my wife and daughter have been out / sleeping, but it leads to problems when they are here because people gte frustrated with the constant "brb need to help the wife a second" etc etc.... People can be less than understanding that some people cant just garentee to be 100% without hassles for an hour, although it is understandable. Thanks for the offer of help, I would take you up on it any time when I am online adn people are willing to help, as I am always willing to learn new ways to do things. I will grab some of the missions at the outpost and get them done, hopefully I can get myself a little more into the game, because the last few days have seen me online less and less due to frusration.... |

I'll chip in my thoughts - you can do the game with henchies. You don't need to be primary or secondary monk to succeed. While all my characters are x/Mo, the only reason for this is unlimited rezzing of the henchies - but apart from that I don't carry any healing spells/skills.. they don't fit in my build - In fact the only character which ever carries self-healing in my Warrior and she used Healing Signet for self-healing.
The thing you need to remember with henchies is that their behaviour is fixed and set - they will attack the same target you are, you don't have full control over where they atand/move in relation to you, you can pull ith them and Alesia/Lisa has wierd rezz'ing priorities. You can finish every mission in the game with them, you just have to be patient and use them wisely. My advice - take it slowly, don't rush headlong and try to aggro as few things as possible as you go. I know you have limited time because of RL commitments, but trying to rush things will kill you every time.. because you'll aggro way too many things and bang! your dead and just wasted your time. 1 tip for The Wilds - move close to the "traps" so you trigger the spiders and the "trap" .. if you've done it right you'll be outside the trap.. run away pulling the spiders with you. This way you csan quickly and easily kill the spiders then move in to kill the tree monster. This makes it a whole lot easier - as all the "trap's" that you need to go through can be done doing this tip 2 - don't follow the mantle when you 1st go into the mission. Thats just going to aggro too many spiders and get you killed. Let them go and kill themselves then move in slowly and pull groups of spiders and kill them seperately. tip 3 - when your going down the "hill" where you then go into the underground where all those Maguuma Spider's are.. go down the left decline, kill all the trolls and wind riders (including a boss).. and then enter the "covered over" area and then pull out fast when the spiders drop. This will pull them a bit out and then attack them. Move slowly through this area as there are lots of maguuma spiders that will drop down. But if you take it slowly you can fight them in manageable groups. tip 4 - use targeting. press CTRL + SHIFT + SPACE to send the henchies in 1st. This draws most of the enemy fire on stefen Thom 1st and lets you rip into the enemy quicker. To make this work you move so they are just outside your aggro circle then C+S+S and that will send the henchies in.. when the henchies come under fire.. you can head in and mop up. Doing this will make your life a whole lot easier if you weren't doing in already.. it'll also mean that Alesia will tend to stay back and thus survive longer than if you just run in.. |

I imagine playing with only henchmen as Warrior is more difficult than any other profession, since the weaker henchies (Alesia, Orion) tend to stick close to the human player. Still, try out some various techniques with an all henchy group. Remember to not change your targets too often as the henchies will go after who you target. And try to keep changing positions if you find the henchies are getting into trouble. They move around if you do. You probably can find some way that works better than what you are doing now.
No matter what profession your character is, this game can be very tough or much easier depending on how you play it. Remember to lure - aggro a few enemies and then run back slowly enough to keep them following. It takes time and practice, but it can be done and it is important to do so in many cases rather than taking a fighting stance where you first contact the enemy. The Wilds is a good example - going up the path where the bonus is, you simply have to drag the enemy back with you or you will encounter 1 or more other parties as you fight. Another time I partied with one other plus henchies, there where there are a lot of spiders, and the guy just kept charging into all the spiders and fighting them where he met them. And so came more and more spiders and our party constantly died. After dumping him (we left each other after so many resurrections), I did the quest again, but more tactically, and found it very easy. Also remember to go after the enemy in the right order. No sense to be pounding away as a warrior at other warriors, while some enemy healing monks are in the background undoing all of your work. If you are the only human, the henchies are targetting who you are targetting, meaning no one is going after the healers. Finding good human players can be tough, but its fun when it works, and sometimes its funny when it doesn't. Make your own party, find the mix of professions you think you need, and don't be afraid to fill the group with henchies, in particular for healers. Having a henchy party with at least two human players, where one is not a warrior, would make life easier, as the non-warrior can hold the weaker henchies back out of enemy range. A trick: if one human player is constantly in motion in the background, the henchies will follow that human rather than a more slowly moving other human. So this makes luring easier with henchies if you use this trick. |

It,'s called the Heroe's Journey-Way of the___<==insert proffession. You can find it after the desertirc chapter of the story when you return to the shiverpeak mountaints (Droknar's forge) You can't cut, you have to be ascended to get the quest. But I suggest you concentrate in Earth magic and Your brother in Curse/blood magic for the time being. He can use curses to lower your opponents Armor and make them take more damage with your attacks. **Mark of pain+price of failure and well of blood if he finds it** I also suggest that your brother changes his secondary to the Mesmer class ability instead of the elementalist. I had a N/E before and it never quite worked out very well, while the Mesmer could help him stop spellcasters type monsters while you stop fighters types. And you can use earth magic to protect yourself. **use Ward against melee/foe/elements if you have found it** |
